From Christchurch we drove down to Lake Tekapo which was a beautiful little lake surrounded by mountains! We visited some hot pools and tried out our new underwater camera, check out the pics!!
Pete drove from Tekapo down to Queenstown and within the first couple of hours received a speeding ticket, oops!! Queenstown was stunning and we were spoilt for choice with activities. We chickened out of the bungy and decided upon a zip wire through the forest which was pretty cool! Pete went for some upside down action and as a result is now talking I'm a high pitched squeaky voice... You will also see from the pics that I indulged in some BBQ ribs, it took me back to being a child and I even got a bib!
From Queenstown we drive straight to fox glacier, the journey was lovely and we were treated to some of the best scenery I have ever seen. Lake Wanaka and Hawea were so pretty surrounded by the mountains.
Fox Glacier was a sleepy town and on the first night we drove up to watch the sunset and geta great view of the glaciers from the edge of town. Next day we were taken onto the glacier by helicopter! We were very much in a minority on the tour as it was all Chinese except for us and we were slightly embarrassed about the size of our camera ;) . The tour was fantastic as we trekked up the glacier armed with crampons and a stick to aid us on the slippery ice! We saw amazing ice caves and crevasses, some parts of the glacier are over 250 metres deep and moves between 1 and 5 metres a day!
On Sunday 30th Sept travelled up to Nelson right at the top of the south island, this was one of our longest drives. We were warmly welcomed by Pete's friends Brian and Tracey and their little son Nathan. On Monday they showed us the local area, a very pretty place which seems to always be sunny and Nathan showed us all how to win mini golf! We left them on Tuesday to make our way to Wellington in the North Island by ferry.
