Hey Everybody! Sorry, just getting a chance to tell you a little about my day in Rome. We took the train into Rome. Public transportation has been extremely easy to use. And the people are always willing to help. Today I tried the Hop-on-Hop-off buses, which turned out to be a great idea. These buses give you a chance to jump off at any site and hop on a bus going to my next destination. My first stop of the day was the Colosseum/Palatine Hill. The bus dropped us off near the Arch of Constantine. We stopped to take a few photos. Walk over to the Colosseum. I just could not believe the size of it. Marcella signed up to take a tour, but demanded her money back, as the tour guide only told jokes and was not going to take them inside. They'd have to do that on their own. I went on to Palatine Hill. This was a lot of walking. I actually walked about 8 miles in total today. Most sites seemed to be uphill and temperature seemed to be about 110 degrees. I took lots of photos, as the ruins are very intriquing. We hopped back on the bus and on to the most spectacular site in Rome - the Vatican. When the bus turned the corner, there it stood in all it's glory. You all know the first picture that came into my mind. Pope John Paul. It's pitifull, I can't even remeber the new pope's name. Plonski and Brina, you will have you pray for me. Anyway, we encountered many street vendors along the short walk from the bus stop. As we came closer I just could not believe that I was actually here. After taking hundreds of pictures, we moved on to the Sistine Chapel and into St. Peter's Basilica. Of course we're arguing, because she knows everything and the Sistine Chapel and St. Peter's Basilica is somewhere else. So you all know me, rather than to keep going on and on, I stop talking. When she asks someone where is St. Peter's and the Sistine Chapel, and they tell her "Madame, you are looking at it," you all know I want to just lie down on the ground and laugh my head off. Anyway after a small rest, we walk out to catch a bus. I wanted to go to the Spanish Steps and Trevi Fountain, but I did not want to take a chance on missing the train. They say if you throw a coin in the fountain, this will guarantee your return to Rome. Someone on the ship told me they never threw a coin in the fountain, but have returned to Rome 4 times. We made it safely back to the ship, exhausted, but I was truly happy.
