Hey Everybody! Though it's the third to the last stop, I believe I will be in Dubrovnik on my own. Today was an extremely, extremely exhausting day (for Marcella, that is). I told here it would be, but she wanted to hang anyway. The walk from the port into Piraeus was a good 30 minute walk, in about 200 degree weather. Marcella walks fast and was leading me. We got to the train station, purchased our tickets to the Acropolis. We arrived with no problems. A three minute walk from the train station, turn the corner and there it was. The Acropolis. The train was 3 Euros (roundtrip) and to get in the Acropolis was 12 Euros. A lady we met from Trinidad stated that the ship charged $59 to go to the Acropolis and if they wanted to do shopping, they'd have to get back to the ship on their own. Anyway, the sights were beautiful. Everyone wants you to take pictures of them. Which is very nice, because no one had problems with doing that. It had to be 250 degrees and no shade anywhere. Ten million steps to climb. The monuments were spectacular. I've only seen this stuff on TV. There's nothing like this up close and personal view. Again there was a debate between us. I knew there was not enough time to make it to the Panathinaikon Stadium, the santuary of Poseidon and Athena. My roommate insisted that they were here on the site. I told her no they weren't. She insisted they were, so you know I got quiet. After her losing her entry tickets into the museum (the guy felt bad for her and gave her a free pass), I sat down in front of the museum to take some pictures as she went in. The rest did me good. We made our way to Plaka (huge shopping district). Did some shopping, I bought some honey and other things. Of course Berries' souveniers. We decided to have something to drink at a restaurant. Marcella had ordered an orange juice (which was fresh squeezed). I sat down to order one also. A waiter flew by, which a huge platter of things and it smelled delicious. We ordered the same thing but for two people. The platter had Mousakka, feta cheese stuffed phylo, sliced pork, sliced and marinated beef, cucumbers, tomatoes, spinach stuffed phylo, fried cheese sticks. Everything on the platter was delicious. We finished our shopping, she had to pick up the two bottles of some type of 30 year old brandy she liked. And it was heavy, so I offered to carry one for her. We made our way back to the train station. She was whipped. The walk from the train station back to the port, put her into meltdown. We had spent 14 hours walking in Athens. Marcella could barely make it back to the ship. She said you can go around Dubrovnik on your own. She went and signed up for a tour with the ship! I'm not laughing, but it was funny, because I was all energized! Love, Deb
