G'day mates!
We've been a bit naughty and haven't updated much in Cairns...whoops.Sorry about that. The last few weeks have been very interesting indeed.
We landed a couples job on the reception at a Hostel in Cairns, which was great to begin with as we had great perks such as bbqs, pizza nights and nights where we'd go out and take people from the Hostel to party and the Woolshed would give us free drinks! We went out Sunday night and not only was it ladies night (which meant I got 5 free glasses of champagne!)we also had free pizza, chips and gravy (I haven't had chips and gravy for quite possibly around 5 months! Thats a bloody long time!) and free BEER and CIDER also. We've also made great friends in this hostel... Sarah from Glasgow, Audrey from France, Laoighse (pronounced Leesha) from Ireland, Valeria from Italy, Patrick from Germany, George from Manchester and Chris and Emma from Reading! We've had some fab nights out with them, but as travelling goes...people move on and leave....
Our beloved Leesha has moved on to mission beach, Audrey has moved on to Asia...
And now it looks like it's our turn to do the same!
The hostel we work for,i'm not going to name, but to be honest... I think the owners are taking the mick a little bit! I won't go into too much detail but their very rude, sexist, and are expecting a lot more from us considering we're not getting paid!
Oh well... good luck to them but it's time we moved on. We don't want to spend our whole time we're in Australia in Cairns, when there's so much more of this awesome country to see!!!
Hannah, my friend from school who I was going to meet up with in Melbourne has unforunately (for me) decided to move on to South America.. and has booked her flight to Buenos Aires next wednesday! Good for her mind, as I bet South America is awesome...and she has been in Oz for two years now, so it's fair play! :-D Hope you have a great trip Hannah, and maybe we'll meet up somewhere in the states if you make your way up there ;-)
So, where does this leave us now? We've left our job at the Hostel, but what we've already worked has earnt us to stay in the Hostel up until friday morning....
We were GOING to go to Dimbulah, to pick lemons or grapefruits... but we tried the number for the farmer today and no answer, hmmm i'm guessing he's out in the field....
So we made our way to a travel agents today to sort out some tours we won on the weekend... and on the way there we saw Chris and Emma again.. who are a lovely couple with whom we spent a lot of the time on sunday night drinking with! We told them we are planning to leave Cairns soon to go down the coast and find work in Bowen or Bundaberg, where there's a lot of fruit farm work at the moment....And by some awesome twist of fate... thats the way their heading on their way to Sydney, stopping along the way, and they leave on sunday! They offered us to go with them down the coast, and they'd drop us off at these places!
How funny life works, eh? :-)
We're going to give them petrol money and go on a little adventure with them down the coast, possibly stopping at camp sites and different places along the way!! Exciting! Any costs we will split with them as it's so nice of them to offer to take us!
We'll update asap when we know anything more!
But yeah, for now, thats it! Life in oz has been one big adventure so far!
