Ulaan Baatar is an extremely polluted city with the busiest traffic and craziest drivers I have ever seen - They take no prisoners, a pedestrian crossing provides no protection, in fact I think the drivers regard it as a target. Amongst the various statues of warlike heroes including Genghis, we came across a statue of The Beatles, prime position in the centre, no idea why. We had very nice and unusual meal with some fellow travellers who we met on the bus, Maerii and Neil from England and Mehdi from France - A little stove with bubbling soup of choice was placed next to each diner and you cooked your own meat(copious amounts provided) in the bubbling soup, with an assortment of sauces and salad as accompaniments - Good huh. Four of us ended up in (you guessed it) an "Irish Bar" reputed to have been the first in Mongolia, had a few beers and reacquainted ourselves with an old friend, a certain Mr Jameson - Sliante
