Hazel and Kieran's adventure!
Well Hola!!!
So we are now here in El Chalten where we have done a pretty amazing thing! We cooked apple crumble for thirty people from scratch. Oh and we went walking on a glaciar. By the way (!)
When we pulled up to El Chalten, we stopped at this "Campsite" at the edge of town were horrified to learn that the bush was the toliet and showers didnt exist! But the park ranger came and asked us to leave to go to another campsite (apparantly he didnt want 60 people peeing all over the national park!) So we did. And it was a whole lot nicer!
The first day we arrived quite late in the afternoon, so we wandered and had a bit of a slow day! We cooked dinner and it was pretty fantastic if we do say so ourselves!!!
The next day, it was up and the crack of sparrows fart to go trekking. We met up with the tour group we had booked up with then trekked for about 3hours to the start of the glaciar. We then walked on the Glaciar for about 1.5 hours kitted out with Crampons and stuff. It was a whole lot of fun! We saw a few ice caves and the photos just dont do justice to how blue the ice was. Piercing blue. We then had the chance to climb and abseil an ice wall, which as you can see from the photos we did and loved it. Except our knees got a bit cold!!!
We collapsed into our beds when we got back as we had walked a total of 32k and had a full twelve hour day of pure nonstop walking.
But it was all worth it. There are no glaciars in England!!!
So wish you were here...
G I and Indie xxxx
