Saturday 24th July - Forgot to mention in the last blog, when we were in Rotorua we went into the hostel swimming pool which was heated and all of a sudden someone through a mushroom at us!!!! We looked around but couldn't see anyone about, v strange. Anyway on Saturday we got up early to set off for Taupo. We got picked up from Huka Falls to do our skydive ahhhhh! We got to the place and were kitted out with jumpsuit, harness, hat, goggles and gloves. What a sexy outfit! We were then partnered up with one of the professionals who would jump with us. Got into the plane and sat squashed up for 20 mins while we got to the right height. At 15000 feet they opened the door and we all shuffled out. We had 45 secs of freefall and then the parachute went up. It was the most amazing feeling ever. The views over Lake Taupo were incredible. It took about 5 mins in the air before we landed. Eventually landed on planet Earth again, Hayley on her bottom, Rachel on her feet. We then all watched the DVD together which made it feel a little bit more real. That night we went to the bar and met Rohan and Pete who we'd met in Rotorua. Had a really good night after a fantastic day!
Sunday 25th July - Hayley got up at 5am after 2 hours sleep, hardcore. While Rachel had a lovely long lie in. This was the first day we had been separated the whole time we've been travelling so were a little scared but we survived. Hayley went to the Tongariro Crossing to start her 19.4km trek. Was kitted out with boots, crampons, fleece trousers and a jacket. It was a really tough walk uphill with only a 20 minute break for dinner but was well worth it as the views were unreal. Eventually got home at 5.30pm after missing Rach lots and was walking like an old woman. Rachel had a chilled out morning uploading the skydiving piccies on fb then in the afternoon went to a place called Craters of the Moon with Stacey, a girl of the Kiwi bus. It was a walk around a geothermal area. After we were finally reunited we went to Pizza Hut for tea!!! Rachel kindly suggested an early night however Hayley was hardcore and was still up for going out. Another night at the Base bar!
Monday 26th July - On the bus on the way to River Valley we stopped off at Tongariro Naional Park for a two hour walk. Should have been a piece of cake for Hayley, however with her groin strain she hobbled round. We stopped at a waterfall for lunch then jumped back on the bus to River Valley. Didn't really do much this evening, just chilled out by the fire with our bus friends and played games. We went to bed earlyish however was woken up by a cat jumping on Rachels pillow. Went to get the lads to rescue us but they were a load of whimps. Rach ended up lifting the pillow up and throwing it off. "Hayley.... theres a cat on my pillow!" lol.
Tuesday 27th July - Pretty much a whole day on the bus today. Arrived in Welllington, the capital city about 6ish. Checked in, had tea then went out!! We managed to find a karaoke bar and got up and sang 'Its raining men'. Managed to clear the place lol. We gave a man the camera to take a photo of us and he dropped it on the floor. Its totally broke the lens and it now won't open properly at all. Rach was devastated. The guy said he would meet us today at 2 to get it fixed/buy a new one. But suprise suprise, he didn't show. However, managed to get a really good deal on a new one. After the disaster we went to a couple more bars with the bus buddies, then bed!
We spent most of today just sorting out the camera but Rach does love her shiney white new one and will be even more snap happy now. So beware facebook!!!!!
