Saturday 19th March
We got up at 3.30, got dressed and headed straight to the bus station (luckily it's only across the road from our hostel!) We arrived at about 3.50 and were only about the 8th people in the Q. By 4am about another 30 people arrived so we were glad we'd come a bit early!
We finally got on the first bus at 5.30 and travelled about 25 mins to Machu Picchu up a very windey steep hill! When we arrived at Machu Picchu we got our stamp for Wayna Picchu and we were only the 43rd and 44th out of 200 to climb at 10. We met our guide and headed in. It was quite cloudy at first but it soon cleared and we had a great view! The tour lasted 2.5 hours and we learnt loads (so much to take in!) Joe was enjoying checking out the inca's stonework!
When the tour finished at 9am we headed back out for the toilet (Joe hasn't been very well today) then back in to climb Wayna Picchu It took us about 45 mins to climb to the top, it was very steep in some places and some of the steps very high! The view from the top was amazing, we sat for a while taking in the view braving the walk down!
The walk down wasn't as bad as we were expecting, it was scary being able to see below and did make us a bit dizzy!
Once we reached the bottom we headed out to grab some lunch. Being captive and paying a fortune for a sandwich and a drink we headed back in to wonder around. (we were going to walk to the sungate where the inca trail ends but were too shattered! Then at about 2.30 tiredness was kicking in and as we reached the gates out it started to pour down (we were very lucky with the weather all day!) so we jumped back on the bus back to Aguas Calientes sat and had a drink and snack and wondered the Market (again) till our train at 7pm. 2 hours back to Ollantaytambo on the train where we were met by a rep for our bus back to Cusco. The bus was a nightmare as we had to wait over half an hour for people that were incapable of looking for their name on a board. We were getting very frustrated (we were shattered too!) We did eventually set off at about 10.40 after the train arriving at 9.30!! Made it back to Cuzco straight in a cab (that had no windows!) and straight to bed!
