Trip to victoria falls - see photo Album One of the Wonders of the World - we had to see it . Stayed in a gorgeous resort hotel, very African ,with nets over our bed, which were not there just for ornamentation, but practical - Keeping malariamossies out.Lovely furniture and decorations( I could hear the African drums) and our bedroom looked out on to the Mighty Zambezi River through fantastic tropical foliage. The monkeys were bounding along our verandah in the morning trying to get into our room. We had heard that we should not to let them near you, as they bite, and you can get rabies.
Jane was our adviser and we had a few meetings which included some Gin and Tonicswhilst sitting on our balcony. Very pleasant meetings, and after considerationsand advice , we decided to take a helicopter ride over the Falls .
So off we went. It was fantastic, toreally see how the whole river system works and how it comes over the falls and down the gorge. A real Wonder of the World. The river was very full, the largest body of water falling in the world. over 545 million cubic metres a minute (9 million litres /sec) cascading over the rocky cliffs. Will never forget it.
We also went on a sunset cruise up the Mighty Zambezi River, also wonderful, The whole river was flooded and running very fast. The sunset was stunning. Reds ,orange, crimson, dark blue, greys, turquoise, pinksall shattering into each other.Amazing
You cannot mention the Zambezi River without putting Mighty in front of it.
Next day, went to the markets near the Falls of the Mighty Zambezi . Many fabulous African carvings and all sorts of things. Thanks to Jane's advice we made out that we were fro Jo'burg, and they gave us some space. We did some bargaining and came away with some goodies. There are so many interesting things there I could fill a container.Jane was great as we negotiated our wayaround. We thenwent on the "Falls" walk and got soaked, absolutely soaked, soaked through. . The power, the force, the might, the sound , the water,it is all overwhelming. Can't describe it,We came back drenched.
Anyhow that is our take on the Victoria Falls.
