Not that much to tell here really after a long bus journey we arrived in Saigon (Ho Chi Min City). It was so different after coming from the peaceful picturesque town of Muine, it was busy busy straight away people everywhere, found the hostel eventually after the taxi dropped us off at the wrong place! Nice hostel though and quite close to some bars and restaurants it was raining so we went just round the corner to get some food and drinks, there are lots more westerners around and it was really busy loads of motorbikes, beggars etc.
Next day after breakfast we made our way to the war museum it's a must if visiting Vietnam. We did not really know a lot about what happened with the war over here so hoped to find out a bit more about the history etc. Arrived there all the USA planes, tanks and bombs and everything were all outside and some of the weapons that were used in the war. Entering the museum was pretty horrible there was a room full of children’s paintings that had been done begging for the war to stop, then all on the walls were photographs and information about the war more people died in the Vietnam war than in World War 2 and the Korean war put together, it showed you then map of Vietnam and some of the towns were completely wiped out some of these towns we had visited down the coast and they must have been completely rebuilt. A chemical called agent orange was sprayed over Vietnam for a long time resulting in children being born with horrific disfigurements I think people finally got compensation for this. Upstairs showed real pictures of families and children in the war and all the soldiers etc. We visited some of the torture chambers and cages that they were kept in it was mad and quite disturbing to think of them being used. Anyway we are glad we went gave us a real insight to what life must have been like and it was not even that long ago really !
We needed to spend the rest of our money as it was our last night in Vietnam so we decided to go for drinks round the bars ended up meeting few people had a laugh met a five year old Vietnamese boy that nearly beat Joe at pool, he goes round all the bars apparently with his mum but makes a fortune out of tourists! We had some food on the way home it was that nice I went back for another one and asked for another crab baguette the guy behind me said you do realize that that is not crab it's pork shavings! eeew (still ate it though).
We were up next morning at 8am to catch the bus to take us over the border to Cambodia. We have loved Vietnam and will definitely come back it's quite sad when you realize what some of the people have been through and they are so friendly but , everywhere is gearing up for the tourists to start flooding in though the amount of hotels etc being built is huge.
Hope everyone at home is well thanks for all your emails look forward to them x
