hellloo from Prague! We arrived here yesterday after a 6 hour train journey from Munich - then got lost for a couple of hours with our huge rucksacks! we got lst in a really nice area though, so it was quite nice really. We eventually found our hostel, then had a wander through this amaing city - we are both totally in love. Had a nice-ish veggie meal last night, as well as wandering through loads of gorgeous little streets, and of course across the King charles Bridge. harriet is bullying me for saying nice too much, so i am going to think of some new words. Today we had a little amble up to te castle and cathedral - well worth it and totally free as long as you don't go in the ctahedral. There are also quite a few lush gardens on that side of the river. we had lunch in a cafe called bio-cafe on Kaprova near the river, which was simply divine and very healthy. we have visited the museum of communism, which is a buit depressing and heavy going but also very interesting. we are now in bohema bagel - of which there are at east four chains around prague. It haswonderful food - I just had a cinamon bun which weighed about as much as my head. we plan to go to the Mucha museum afterwards, ad still have another day tomorrow before our sleeper to krakow. everything is ridiculously cheap. Now passing you over to my glamorous assistant.
ASSISTANT?! Cheeky lady! yes, our hostel is on karlova street, not to be confused with kaprova, which we did! walking around it this mornign we saw things that we'd seen loads while we were lost so we must have been really close to it about 10 times! ay well, a novel way of seeing prague! it's 32 degrees here, hope it's not too much hotter in other places but coping ok, drinking lots of water and the occasional iced coffee! many tourits on the main streets, but a 2min wander off to the side and you're on your own again. hostel is on a main street (pedestrian busy one) but have just slept thru the noise! had an interesting conversation about whether we could keep our luggage there tomorrow before the train- they offered to book the train for us, give us extra nights at the hotel etc before we finally got our meaning thru! they're lovely there, tho, get the hostel feelign much more! it's the sleeper to krakow tomorrow night, staying 1 night in a hostel there, then gettin sleeper back here then going to vienna as soon a we get into prague in the morning- we haev to cross the city to get the other train station- should be fun after no sleep at 7am and few signs in english! we'll be great at travelling by the end of this! this cafe is AMAZING! jsut had baileys cheesecake, actually cannot move (despite leaving a bit, be proud mutti!) go from vienna to budapest next weds, to keep u guys up to date! hope UK is still on it's feet and the medical profession hasn't been brought into any more disrepute! xxxx
UPDATE: had a hilarious evening last night, ended up eating in a gay bar by accident (one of the few in prague, apparently! food was vg and cheap) then went to an underground jazz cafe until midnight or so, whcih was fantastic. also, prague is the City of Animals- we've seen a peacock, helen saw a rat a metre or two away from us in the dark in a small street, and i was stuck in the hostel toilet with a really cute little mouse! didn't stop me from shreiking when it came near me tho! managed to escape alive and encourage it to go down the corridor and not into our dorm! spending afternoon drinking iced coffee (indulgent), reading, writing in our journals, stocking up on loads of snacks for The Sleeper (an unknown...!) and not much else! thismornign we went to the mucha museum, so i know now what art nouveau is, and helen has further improved her bottomless art knowledge! Just to confirm (this is Helen now, writing to emma Lunec), Bohemia Bagel is the best plaec to go in Prague, but maybe you should go in the afternoon instead of at lunch as there were loads of annoying english families today. It is on Masna, which is close to the main beautiful square. you should also try cafe ebel, of which there are roughly a million in prague. but they're not at all chainy-esque! Coffe with ice-cream is particularly recommended. xxxxxxxx
