I arrived home safely last night after flying from Windhoek to Johannesburg, Johannesburg to Sydney and from Sydney to Adelaide. My biggest fear of not having my bike follow me through did not materialize. Surprisingly I did not experience the challenges of airlines wanting to charge for excess baggage either which was refreshing. Perhaps they could see in their system that I was not charged additional fees on the way over. South African Airlines were pretty good. The challenges presented themselves when SAA were partnering with Virgin and Qantas for specific legs of the flight. Although SAA had agreed to free transportation of sporting equipment up to 20kgs (my bike weighs in at 19.5 with the box) the other airlines have different baggage rules. Anyway I experienced none of the challenges I had on the way over. In terms of getting my bike and gear through Australian customs again I was surprised. I completed the mandatory customs declaration form highlighting I had been in central Africa, possibly had soil attached to the bike, had been in wilderness and farming areas and I did have products made of wood in my luggage. Everyone before me were having their bags checked. When it was my turn the Customs officer asked whether my by bike Tyre's were clean. I commented that one Tyre had remained in Africa with a friend and the other remained on the bike and by all accounts looked pretty clean. He essentially waved me through not even looking at my bike or any of the contents of my panniers. Myself and other return travelers queuing were amazed. Perhaps I had some good karma due to my small donation of foreign currency to UNICEF on the plane!! It is nice to be home again and already I have a greater appreciation for comforts such as showers, accessibility to food of your choice, widescreen flat TV's, you're own bed etc. Lily my youngest exclaimed she was starving prior to dinner tonight. I explained to her that she had already had 2 meals today unlike many of the African children that confronted hunger each and every day. I will publish some of my favorite photos from my other camera tomorrow. If the guys are reading continue to enjoy the beautiful landscape Namibia is presenting. I am hoping to turn the peddles on the road bike tomorrow here in Adelaide. I will be thinking of you all.

Gembel Having just moved to the area and being an aspiring bcciylist, I was delighted to see your new shop location. And what a great location it is! Easy access, with an identity toward Charleston and the exterior Patio space is a plus, for congregating groups, prior to rides. I'm truly looking forward to having a neighborhood bike shop.
