Happy Hippos on Holiday
Hi everyone!
G'day from Down Under! The last section of our trip is a 7-week clockwise tour of Australia, which began with a long weekend in Melbourne. We were picked up from the airport by Liz (an ex-colleague) and her husband Ed, with whom we were staying. We spent a pleasant evening catching up over a chinese takeaway and a bottle of wine, whilst playing with Ella and Lucy, their two dogs - aaaahhh, the joys of domesticity!
The next day, the three of us girls left Ed at home studying (and doing our laundry!) and went on a day trip to Mornington Peninsula. We had an enjoyable walk along the beach and through the bush to the former military base at the tip of the peninsula, created to guard the narrow entrance to Port Phillip Bay. On a clear day, you can see Melbourne in the distance, but we couldn't spot it due to cloud cover... though given it was winter, we were actually lucky with the weather, as it remained mild and dry throughout our stay.
We stopped off on the way home at a fabulous bayside restaurant for a hot chocolate complete with marshmallows and watched the sunset. A quick stop at Blockbuster Video set us up for an evening vegged out in front of the TV ... more domestic bliss!
Throughout our trip, Monday mornings have always held a special significance to us as the start of another non-working week and this smug feeling was magnified as we accompanied Liz to the Cadbury office, bade her farewell and went off to play! After a hard day in the city, we all met up again for after "work" drinks and took turns to answer the "How was your day, dear?" question! That evening, we enjoyed our final taste of domesticity before hitting the backpacker scene again, with home cooking, non-superficial conversation and endless games of 'fetch' with the dogs.
An early start was on the cards the next morning, as Liz kindly dropped us at the airport before going to work. We only had a few hours to kill before our flight to Adelaide, stop no.2 of our Great Aussie Adventure. More on this next time!
Hope you are all well!
love
