Hungover ergh! This summed up this Sunday morning. Not getting out of bed until 11:00 was a clear sign of the night before effects.
To try and turn the tide, I made scrambled eggs on toast. We then watched a couple more episodes of Black Lightning. However we weren't destined to have a clear head today. Even the cat seemed to know this & was hanging around for attention. Just before two a taxi was summoned to take us to Laura's parents to recover her car. We had a look around her house and now office & there is plenty of space. I'm surprised she doesn't get distracted by the pool when she should be working!
The drive to Hahndorf was nice and easy and it looked as picturesque as it had online. Once Laura had left I walked around the township that was quite busy being a Sunday afternoon.
I found the main wine cellar that has wines for all the local vineyards. During the tasting I chatted with the guy about my plan for tomorrow and after some advice from the tourist information centre decided that it would be to far to walk to some of the vineyards.
Walking back past the mill I discovered a couple of tasting rooms. Laudhaus produces wines mainly in the Barossa but also has some vineyards in the Hills which I tried, I then sat outside with a glass of the Arnies. Most of the wineries and cafes close up at 17:00 but across he street Somerled was open till 18:00. This was a nice quiet peaceful setting to look on the street and relax. I tried a glass of the Sauvignon, followed by half glasses of the Fume, & the Pinot Noir.
Being a German township it would have been rude to not pop into one of the pubs for dinner. The Hahndorf Inn seemed the most logical choice. I certainly didn't feel like a German beer though, instead opting for a pint of the Wild Yak Pacific Ale to accompany my very tasty Bockwurst. Plenty of Sauerkraut you will be happy to know Debra!
Back at the Old Mill I grabbed a pint of the West End Draft while chatting to the bar tender Simon & another girl who had just finished working in the restaurant. This worked out as I got some company a free game of pool, that I won (thanks for all the practice sessions Suri!), & a free pint. Simon had spent a number of years working in the UK & suggested I go see Ross Noble for my final night in Australia.
