After a good nights sleep I woke around 06:30 and decided to head out for a jog. My route took me around Roma Street Park, & many people heading to work. Even though it was early it was already hot.
Back at the hostel I had my morning coffee while constantly checking the weather forecast hoping it would change.
I walked down to the Miramar which only took 15minutes to reach from the hostel. The boat was full on the way up with large Asian and German party's respectively.
To kick the journey off I ordered a bacon & egg sandwich with cheese for breakfast, accompanied by a glass of Sauvignon Blanc. When on the water time is no factor. The journey up was an hour & fifteen minutes & very informative. Accompanied with some dry humour along the way.
At Lone Pine, there were various shows and talks throughout the day. First up was a talk on the Koalas and their lifestyle. After that there was the free flight raptor show, were I got to see some well trained birds chewing down on their lunch. I didn't get a chance to take any photos though as the birds were flying directly over the audience at times. There was time to wander through the Kangaroo sanctuary. No need for any of them to worry about food with the amount of tourists they get coming through. There was an area set up where people weren't allowed to go, & sure enough that's where most of the Kangaroo's were settled.
During a half an hour window you could have your photo taken with a Koala. The photo was well worth it, even though many people from other countries don't understand queuing. Before heading back to the boat, I listed to a talk by the snake handler. Many people kept walking very close to the snake during the talk rather them than me.
Back on the boat the tour groups were not coming back with us. I sat out the front of the boat with my wine. Only breaking to take a turn steering the ship and chatting to he Captain. He didn't let me have his hat though!
Once docked up in Brisbane I headed to a bar recommended to me by Charlie Young, South Bank Beerhouse. It was happy hour when I arrived, & they served free popcorn. The bar has a view of the artificial beach and lagoon. All that was missing was the sun.
I walked back to the hostel and nipped in the backpackers bar next door that has a great view out over the city and the cheapest glass of wine I've had in Australia so far at $3.50. Drinkable as well.
I had chosen to go out for Vietnamese in the west end tonight for dinner. The BYO restaurant Trang had scored highly on numerous sites. On the forty minute walk over I started feeling a bit light headed. Lack of water was most likely the problem. Thankfully there was some at the restaurant & my pho was very enjoyable. I did not partake in any further drinking. The walk back was challenge enough, a taxi would have been a better choice.
I did make it home just as the rain started to come down heavily.
