After saying goodbye to Sam the previous evening, we had a leisurely start to the day, & making sure we left nothing behind. When Harry departed for work, I did feel very sorry for him as I was embarking on another day of adventure.
Sam had supplied us with a detailed plan of how to get about, which made things easier. This did not take away from the fun of setting off 'on our own' around the city.
Hong Kong cleverly allows you to check your bags in for your flight in the middle of the city. This allowed us to spend the day exploring without being lumbered with cases. Why all cities in the world do not do this is beyond me.
We took the MTR train to a station I shall never be able to write or say, it was in Kowloon, anyway. We took a walk down Nathan Road quite comparable area to downtown Manhattan. I purchased a tailored shirt from a tailor in the Sheraton mall. This shall serve me well for Sam's & Harry's wedding in the summer.
After that we strolled down the avenue of stars with ice cream as the day continued to heat up.
Next on the agenda was the Star Ferry crossing followed by a city bus tour. A last minute change of plans saw us go to Stanley on the bus instead of around the town. This turned out to be more than pleasant as we saw parts of the island we had previously not.
We took lunch in a colonial building moved from downtown HK to Stanley. This was the perfect way to draw our HK experience to an end, the meal, view & weather was fantastic.
Upon departing the bus we took in the roof garden next to the LFC building before boarding the express to the airport.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank our hosts who were more than accommodating & allowed us to do a lot more than we could have done alone.
Harry succeeded where others have failed for years in getting Alan to try new foods!
Hong Kong is a truly magnificent city that has it all. A metropolis, great weather, beaches, quiet parks, & country walks. I can see now why Sam relocated out here.
Sad to leave so soon, but on to chapters new, next stop Sydney!

Janis Proudfoot I'm sensing a theme developing here involving beer and ice cream! Enjoy J x
Sameera It has been an absolute pleasure having you to stay! I must say im shattered now - having to work today was not only depressing for being the start of another week of graft, but that I missed out on another day spent with an old friend, I will treasure the time we did have, and glad that Harrys love of food has widened Alans Taste horizons! Sounds like you had a great day today- good work on the shirt! And lunch in Murray House, Stanley, by the sounds of it- great choice! The roof garden of IFC (not L) another great choice- beer in the sun? Thats IFC 1- the mini remmington shaver building, next to IFC2, tallest building in Hong Kong till The ICC was completed last year- still being in the shadow of 5th or 6th tallest building in the world cant be an unworthy experience! My only regret is that I couldnt fix the football for you, but you brought a piece of home back to me with your geordie heart and an evening in the pub infront of the screen! See you in august! Look forward to reading your forthcoming tales! Lots of love Sam and Harry, please come back to visit us again! Xxxx
lorna hansell I am quite emotional reading your blog and Sameera's comments. It sounds as if you had a WONDERFUL time. Enjoy the next stage.
