After leaving Bangalore we had a 9 hour layover in Singapore airport. Of all the airports in the world this is probably the one to be stuck in for a long time. It has loads of free stuff to entertain you, including a cinema. Most importantly for us though it had a McDonald's selling actual Big Macs! Hannah had been dreaming of one for quite a long time and it certainly didn't disappoint. After that we tried to sleep on some of the free beds they provide in a special rest area. It would have been quite comfortable if the air conditioning wasn't being controlled by an Eskimo! This meant neither of us got much sleep so Hannah decided the best thing to do was go shopping. I was just praying our plane would be called for boarding before she discovered she could visit all the other terminals where there were even more shops!
The place in Bali where we were staying was called Kuta. Known for drunken backpackers and rowdy Aussies - worlds away from where we'd just come from! If we'd arrived here from the UK we probably would've hated it but I think a small part of us quite enjoyed the familiar brands and easy way of life. Lots of western folk and everyone speaking English. Plus having actual supermarkets was a massive novelty! This meant we didn't actually do a lot here apart from sunbathe, eat, drink and of course watch Britain dominate the sporting world (Wimbledon and British Lions tour). Whoop!
