Arrived at Canberra on the 10th November and checked into the city YHA. On arrival they had messed up our booking but reclaimed themselves after giving us a room to ourseselves for the night, free breakfast in the morning and then checked us into a 4 bedded femal dorm for the rest of our stay for a much cheaper rate. Touch!!
That evening the plan was too cook dinner and have a quiet night, this plan soon got thrown out the window when a bottle of wine dissapeard. we decided to go out and explore the nightlife of Canberra. we went to a bar called honkeytonks which was really nice then moved onto an irish pub called King O'Malleys and made our way back to the hostel quite drunk.Friday 11th November. We were a bit worse for wear but after some free Breakfast which was had to get down we decided to make the most of our day. We went to Canberra museum where we learnt quite a bit, i now feel i know more about Canberra history than i do about English history!. Canberra was founded in 1910 and was first called the bushcity as guess what, it was bushland before the city was built here. Canberra was designed by an architect who wanted the city to feel spacious which it most definatly is, its like having the conveniance of London with the greenary, space and park land of the countryside. Any way thats as far as my History goes im afraid!! That evening we had dinner and headed out on the town again. Whilst we were out we met a Group of lads from Wollongong, which is our next stop. They were out on there football end of season trip and just so happened to be staying in the YHa to in the room next to us.Saturday 12th. We Hired bikes and went to the old and new Parlement house which was interesting and had a tour around, after this we went to another art gallery, so of the stuff looked like a 4yr old did it. here i got told of by a local when one painting was just a piece of canvas painted red which a description next to its saying something like, thisis the artists view of the surrounding land, to which my comment was where was he ayres rock?? jokingly to which a lady behind me pointed out 'Art is open to interpretation' i dont think she was very impressed with me!!. After the art gallery we road our bikes around the river and then headed back to the hostel. That evening we met up with the football lads again who all seemed really nice and spent the night in a few bars ending up in a club called mooseheads which was pretty good. that evning the boys invited us to stay with them when we get to Wollongong which we will concider.Sunday 13th was a chill out day so we headed to the park and sunbathed it was so hot!!
Monday 14th November. Today we hired bikes again and went to Questacon which is a Science museum, it was really good in there me and sarah were like a couple of kids. After this we went to the War memorial for the colsing ceromony which a man was playing the bag pipes which was nice! we got there to late to look around. Tomorrow we head to Wollongong!!
