Hey dudes - got my sorry arse to Australia!! Woop!! First stop on my trip to Oz is Perth, and I have to say that for the first time in my trip, I wasn't impressed!! I can't say whether being warned about Perth clouded my judgement, or maybe just the fact I was shattered , but the first day was not good!
I arrived on the Friday and checked in to my very cool backpackers - went into my room, said my hello's and got very little back! I then decided to go out to a few bars and to have some dinner to see if I could meet people that way - apparently not - just felt like abit of a prat! Then I went to play on the internet at one of the other hostels, and met the lovely lovely Eve, who was in a similar situation. The problem with Perth is that everyone is here working, so people just aren't that keen to make friends. Which is totally fair enough, just a pain when you are.
Eve, me, Simon (German) and Max (Swedish - and the camera breakerer) all went out that night. Bearing in mind, by this time it was 11.30pm and we were sober, whilst half of Western Australia are celebrating it being Friday. My point being that people were smashed!! Oh my god, these Australian's know how to drink! I thought English people were bad - Perth was drunker, sluttier and more disgusting that most English pubs i've been to! I saw things that night that I did not enjoy!!! HOWEVER . . . I am going to remind you all that I was sober, I was tired, I had a bad first impression, I had to change into my sneakers for this treat, and had my camera broken 2 hours previously! I don't think I made a sound analysis!!
The next few days were the start of my lazy behaviour! Basically travelling in Oz is bloody expensive, and even if you do nothing (not even eat), you are paying $175 a week JUST on accomodation!! It sucks and it means that my time here may well be cut short, although I don't mind cos I know I'm coming back and will be earning here!! Eve, Simon and I went over to Freemantle, which is such a gorgeous place, with a huge port of stunning boats. We went on a tour of the prison, which was superb, and had a glass of wine at one of the lovely outside bars - such a nice place. There is a street nicknamed 'Cappuccino Street' because of all the gorgeus coffee shops.
On Sunday, we walked up to King's Park which is stunning, and has a gorgeous view over the whole city. We had a picnic, then took ourselves back to town to see if we could get into the drinking here. Apparently a Sunday Session was just the way to integrate us in, and it was superb. We went to Shed, and they had put a swimming pool in the garden just for the occassion! Made friends with some wicked older gay guys that could certainly show you Brighton lot a thing or two! Made me abit homesick for you all though!!
To cure the hangover, Austen (English guy) and I decided to go for a walk. This walk turned out to be around the entire of the Swan River at the south of Perth, and it took us over 3 hours and I had very sore legs at the end. A gorgeous day though, and my first sighting of wild kangaroos. Later I realised this would be my first of many!!!
Perth is lovely, and a great place to chill out, but I was ready for something else!
