Like a band of gypsies we go down the highway
As I am not online that often here, it is hard to remember all I have done since last time I wrote.
I went to a Tengo show at Cafe Tortoni, one of the oldest and most famous cafes in Buenos Aires, explored the "Dante Building" which was modeled after Dante's Inferno, the number of offices and the levels relating to the different stanzas and levels of Hell (the police department located at the bottom, ie, Hell, and we never could reach Heaven because of security), and wandered the streets aimlessly once more.
One night last week I went out with 2 other students and some local guys that they met to an Irish pub close to my house. Learned some new "lundfarda" (Buenos Aires slang), and for the first time in my life was called Mexican. I think it's karma that since the majority of the US seems to associate South Americans with Mexicans, California formerly being a part of Mexico, and since I consider Tequilla and beans to be fairly good things to consume, my blonde roots and blue eyes became obsolete. The irony was overwhelming. It was great.
This past weekend I went to Mar del Plata, a small beach town South East of Buenos Aires with 2 other students. Drank Mimosas on the beach watching the sunrise, hunted for seashells, found a colony of sealions, jumped off sand dunes, and ate amazing sea food. We got home late Sunday night, just in time for dinner (around 10pm).
Yesterday went to the horse races (ladies get in free) and then wandered the park. We tried to rent paddle boats, but I think they may have been closed for the season. We had to leave before sunset anyways though because the park here is apparently like the Red Light district at night. Last night I went to see "Volver," a Spanish movie with Penelope Cruis, that surprisingly I could for the most part understand. That was deffinately encouraging, seeing how it is hard to gauge how much I am really improving in my Spanish while here.
Now I need to go rest, as I'm going to a Tengo club tonight, a tour of Teatro Cologn tomorrow afternoon, one of the most famous steakhouses in the world and another club tomorrow night. It is hard to fit everything I want to see into this amount of time. I'm keeping busy though and enjoying every moment of it.
Love.
