Queenstown

We ended up spending 5 nights in Queenstown; we had a couple of games of frisbee golf, did a bit of skiing, had the coldest game of squash of our lives, a few fergburgers and a few too many Tui's with Ross and Laura, and slipped on the ice one too many times. Unfortunately, the money situ meant we couldn't afford to do a bungee, but there's always next time, plus Jonny was too chicken anyway.

1. Luxury Accomadation - While we were in queenstown it was flipping freezing (like -7 at night freezing) so I was very thankful to be staying in a powered site as I think we may have died if we hadn't! The powered site meant we got to use our little fan heater for the first time, although it looked like one of those heaters that breaks or sets on fire if it's left on too long, it did us proud and kept us toasty each and every night! Staying at a campsite also meant we had unlimited access to washing facilities, you may not think this is amazing, but after 3 weeks of having baby wipe showers it was like heaven.

2. Food - Staying on the campsite also meant we didn't have to cook on the gas cylinder in the van, we had the luxury of a kitchen. We even decided to move away from our everyday pasta and carrots, and add a bit of meat to our meals (aka the ham that we normally have for lunch). We also ended up having 2 fergburgers while we were in Queenstown, one of which helped cure a hangover and one of which we had at about 11am just because they were the best we'd ever had! Everyone had told us that we had to go to Fergburger along the way because it was legendary..........and they definately fulfilled our expectations!

3. Frisbee Golf - Seeing as we had no money to do any of adrenaline junkie activites we had to settle with a couple of games of frisbee golf. To be fair it was pretty good even though I was pretty poor at it. The course was also in a really nice park by a lake surrounded by snowcapped mountains. It was so good we even played twice (confirming to the woman at the frisbee hire shop that we were losers), however, the second time we plyed with Ross and Laura from our dolphin trip so we looked less like losers.....slightly!

4. Squash - On our 2nd day we decided to have a game of squash to try and stop the blood clots forming. I was good to get some exercise, but the court was like an ice box it literally took us 5 minutes to warm up the ball, and we still weren't warm after 45 minutes.

5. Skiing - We thought we'd have a go at skiing while were in Queenstown, especially as we had 3 days of snow while we were there and 6 days of minus temperatures. We rented some gear, eventhough Jonny was originally planning to just go in his jeans and normal jacket, but luckily the shop lady persuaded to not be a moron as when we got on the mountain it was -20! Our first attempt to get onto the mountain was pretty unsuccesful as it was too snowy for the bus to get up the mountain.

Take 2 was more successful as we made it on to the mountain with all our gear. However, it was a complete white out so after one slope we chickened out and sat in the cafe for a good hour hoping the sun would come out. Unfortunately, we had no such luck so we decided to ski to the other cafe. On the way Jonny managed to ski off the side of the mountain, luckily he didn't fall too far and there was enough snow to cushion his fall, which meant I was allowed to find it hilarous. After our next 2 hour cafe stop we did a couple of more blind runs and Jonny fell over quite a bit trying to do 360's!

Athough the weather wasn't great and we spent alot of time eating and drinking rather than skiing it was still pretty good to get on the slopes for a bit.

6. Lord of the Rings hunt for the weirdo - Jonny spent alot of New Zealand rabitting on about the Lord of the Rings and how we should do a tour. Thankfully we didn't have enough money to do a tour, so instead we went to Arrowtown to hunt out a stream that they apparently did a scene at. We found the a stream, but compared to the scenery we had been used to it was definately just a pretty unimpressive stream, but Jonny was happy so I suppose it was worth it!

So all in all eventhough Queensland was pretty darn chilly we had a pretty good time there and like most of New Zealand the views weren't too bad either!
