Sydney
Sydney was our second Aus stop and we ended up spending just over a week there. Our Sydney highlights included getting to know the Australian wildlife, eating our first roo and about 6 spag bols, crab racing, manly island, St Paddy's night with some crazy dutch guys, Jonny seeing off a whole mudcake, Jonny walking into a lamp post (my personal favourite), seeing the blue mountains/not seeing any blue mountains, a rainy bondi beach and the wettest run of all time!
Botanical Gardens and the opera house - We arrived in Sydney pretty early bird and noone in our hostel was up so we decided to dump our bags and go and explore the botanical gardens (as both me and Jonny are obviously massive horticulture lovers!). To be fair to garden lovers the botanical gardens were pretty impresive.....there was alot of big trees (who doesn't love a big tree) and there was a mahoosive bat colony! It also hada pretty impressive view of the Sydney Opera house accross the river. During our time in Sydney we actually spent quite a bit off time in the gardens, we had a couple of picnics there which involved trying not to get attacked by the ibis'. On our last day in Sydney we also had the wettest run of all time there (we looked like we had jumped in a pool when we got back), Jonny was not a happy bunny as none of our clothers had time to try before we were off and it was ony 3 days later when Jonny's bag started to smell like aids that we remembered about them!
Aquariums, a wildlife park, and sydney sky tower - Jonny had been itching to see some deadly wildlife and fishes for ages, so we got ourselves a $50 ticket to go see 2 aquariums, a wildlife park and the sky tower....probably the only good deal available in Australia! We saw pretty much every fish in Australia in the 2 aquariums including my personal favourite the morning cuttle fish which has 3 hearts but rarely makes it past its first birthday (little fact file for you there), we also saw alot of sharks and some actual mermaids (well some women dressed as mermaids in a pool.......slightly odd!) We then went to the wildlife park where we worked our way through australia's deadly animals, the roos, koalas and the wombats! The sky tower was alright, but the virtual video that gave you whip lash as it went over australia was better.
St Paddys day - In the morning we had a gander round Paddy's market, then at night we went on a St Paddy's bar crawl with the people from our hostel. We managed to lose the other crawlers apart from afew crazy dutch guys on the way to the next bar. We eventually found the next bar that served all their drinks in teapots ...bit random. We ventured to afew more clubs then Jonny got peckish so we went to find a McDonalds. We did find a Maccyds but we also found ourselves in the middle of Kings cross' red light district which had a fistful of beautiful/but ugly naked prossies larking about!
Blue Mountains aka sitting in a rain cloud - Despite having a couple of days of awesome weather in Sydney the majority of our time their was pretty rainy. Unfortunately our day trip to the blue mountains was on one of our more rainfilled days. This resulted in us not really seeingof the blue mountains or the 3 sisters, apart from a couple of wild kangaroos and a 'aboriginal drawing' of a kangaroo (aka a kangaroo drawn by a five year old last week). We pretty much paid $90 to sit in a rain cloud all day, on the plus side we could here the waterfall even if we couldn't see it, and we did get to go on the steepest railay in the WORLD! Note to self for next time though is take a raincoat out if it is raining............schoolboy error!
Bondi beach - On our last day in Sydney we thought we should probbly go take a look at Bondi beach as due to the rain we hadn't seen it yet. It was slightly moist when we left again, but we were glad we powered through the rain this time as it brightened up when we got there and we pretty much had the whole beach to ourselves. Jonny had a whale of the time practising his long jump skills on the beach while I caught afew more precious rays!
Well that pretty much concludes our time in Sydney, all it was pretty good apart from the down pour!

Lorna & Derek We didn't see the Blue Mountains either - not sure that they exist! Think they must be a ploy by the Aussie Tourist board. Lorna & Derek xx
