The next leg of our tour of Oz............
As you already know we start this leg from Melbourne & we end up in Adelaide. The route we took for this journey was along 'The Great Ocean Road' & what a journey it was. The views were just out of this world. The road is basically what it says.............. 'Great' & right on the 'Ocean' for around 300 km!!!!!!
Our road trip begins with our 3 new friends, Helen (designated driver), Rob (crazy Welsh doctor) & Rhys (even crazier Welsh farmer!!!!!). It takes us around one & half hours to finally find our way out of Melbourne & we hit the road for our first stop in Torquey. We stay in this small surfing town for just the one night & move on to pastures new......
The next day we drive to another small town called 'Lorne'. We all instantly fall in love with this place (it may have something to do with the quality accommodation we fall upon????....), it has a real laid back atmosphere & the beach is top, along with some massive waves. These waves actually pulled me & the other half 100 meters out to sea the next day, we got stuck between 2 sand bars & got pulled out by the rip. After 10 mins of frantic swimming we both managed to catch a wave back in to shore & then got b******ed by the life guard......ever think of getting off your sun tanned ass & helping us out?????? k*** jockey!!!!!!
Anyway, we spent 2 nights in Lorne & then hit the road again. Our next stop..... Apollo Bay. This place was a little larger than the previous 2 places. We stayed here for 2 or 3 days & then we said our good byes to Helen & Rhys who were heading back to Melbourne to go on the 'Neighbours' night (for the second time!!!!!!).
Myself, Hannah & the crazy Doc then caught the bus & headed on our way. It took us 2 more days to get to Adelaide & on the way we visited 'The 12 Apostles' which were amazing & did a tree top walk & also visited the Grampians National park for some more breath taking photos.
We made it to Adelaide & we stopped 5 km out of the centre in a small seaside resort called Glenelg. This is one of the nicest places we have stayed in Oz. We were right on the beach & we splashed out on a double room instead of the scrubby dorms!!!! We went out for a few drinks the second night we were here as Rob was leaving us in the morning & heading back to Cardiff (only to go skiing in France for a week the day later!!!!). Lets just say Hannah had a few too many!!!!!.
While we were in Adelaide there was the Fringe Festival on & we went to a comedy night which was top quality. We went wine tasting & drank the equivalent of 3 & half bottles each!!! Be warned Nick (brother), next time we are around yours & you get one of the cheap bottles of 'Hock' out, we will know!!!!!....... We also visited a shark museum, saw the annual Police Vs Fire tug of war (Em, the police won in the end, but not without dirty tactics...... your all the same you lot!!!!!!) & we also went chocolate tasting!!!!
Alot of people we have spoken to didn't enjoy Adelaide & thought it was a bit intimidating. But were we stayed was really nice & I would recommend it to anyone. We would of stayed longer, but I'm afraid it is time to push on to begin our tour to Alice Springs in the morning..... at 5.45am!!!!
Done & dusted,
