Song of the Day: Christmas Is All Around - Billy Mack
Mumisode of the Day: Mum leapt in front of our original hire car vehicle and banged the bonnet to get Dad's attention as there was no way she was leaving in this, "Mausoleum on wheels!"
We gathered our mound of bags, now even trickier as each of us has a bag of Christmas presents and wrapping paper, and made our way to the Hauptbahnhof. After two attempts, Dad located the hire car office and returned with keys. After a ten minute walk through the rain we arrived at our vehicle to realise in horror that it was a mini-bus: all black, massive and box-like. Mum described it as a hearse, an ambulance, a monstrosity and as a mausoleum on wheels.
After Gemma coaxed Dad out of the vehicle, they returned to Europcar and demanded a different vehicle that was "Not a bus," according to Dad. To collect the new vehicle proved quite the challenge as you couldn't really open either the passenger or the driver's door. Dad managed to flick the car into neutral and push the car forward telling Gemma she was the brakes. Luckily, although there isn't a lot of leg room, the mound of luggage fits in quite comfortably.
En route, we stopped at the Audi Forum where David saw his future vehicle, an Audi TT. It was really interesting to see how Audi's cars have changed in the last century. Amber found the comic strip version even better.
Arriving in Nuremberg, we sadly could not fit our car in the garage as there was a height restriction of 1.5m. Imagine if we had have had the bus. The bags were dropped, Dad parked in the city car park, and we set off to explore the Christmas markets of Nuremberg. These markets are a real event in this town. Everyone seems to gather in the central square to sip hot mulled wine and eat bratwurst buns. There are various trinkets available. We purchased some kinder punch that was delicious and was served in a porcelain Christmas boot. Delicious!
Dinner tonight was in a Mexican restaurant/bar that was quite noisy but served delicious food. We are all very excited to be returning to Rothenberg tomorrow.
