Mario's trip to the unknown
had to wake up early again to catch my plane to San Salvador, the capital of El Salavador. I still feel sorry for the guy at the hostel that I had to wake up because the outside door was locked. Nobody bothered to notify that I had to leave early. At first, the airline refused to let me board on the
plane saying that El Salvador was requesting them to prevent anyone without an onward ticket to board on the plane. I showed them my plane ticket going from Guatemala City on the 18 and told them I had already checked with the Canadian embassy and they finally let me got into the airplane. The immigration process went smoothless in El Salvador. My first surprise upon my arrival was to discover that the city was 55 km away from the airport. It cost me twice more to get to the city ($16) than my bus ticket to Guatemala City ($8). I went straight to the bus terminal and was hapilly surprised to learn that they still had some seats available for the last bus today and I left at 3pm. We had to stop at both El Salvador
and Guatemala custom offices but things went well and I arrived in Guatemala City at around 8pm. I was too tired to look for an accomodation so I decided to stay at the hotel right at the bus station, it was a pretty good deal ($13) for a clean room with my own private shower and 110V power for my laptop. It was so nice that I decided to book for 2 days. It should be fairly easy to catch the bus for the airport on the 18 since the taxi hub is located right next to it. I had a diner at a very typical casa next to the terminal, I am pretty sure that most of my gringo friends would have passed on it. I was served some Guatemala fried beans with some home made waffles... interesting...!
