On our second day in Vietnam, we went to a silk lantern making workshop just around the corner from our homestay. When we arrived, we were served green tea which had been brewed to perfection by the Vietnamese teacher who would be teaching us how to make the lanterns.
The teacher, who was called Ganta, brought out the frame of the lantern and the silk which we would stick on the frame.
Once we had sat down, we got stuck in with gluing the silk onto the frame. At first we found the technique of putting a bit of glue on the frame before sticking the silk on quite hard but we soon got the hang of it. After we had finished sticking the silk on the frame, we had to cut straggly bits of silk off of the lantern so it looked nice and tidy.
After 30 minutes of intense sticking and cutting, we had finally finished our lanterns. Mine was green, my dad's yellow, my mum's pink and my brothers orange. We stood up, said thank you to our teacher and went back to the hotel proud of our accomplishments.
