G R On Tour
Jodhpur (30th May - 8th June)
After just writing those dates it really didn't feel we were there for that long. The main reason we stayed so long was because we had a lot of trouble trying to book a train out of the place. We were hoping to go straight to mumbai from here but found out the next available train would be on the 26th June or thereabouts so we had to take some detours...
Jodhpur, the blue city, is dominated by an amazing fort (Meherangarh) which overlooks the city from the top of a 140m high mountain face. When the photos are uploaded you will be able to see the amazing views upto and from the fort, simply breathtaking. A lot of the buildings here are painted blue, hence 'blue' city, originally due to religious reasons but the locals continue to do this simply as an insect repellant.
Our home here was a placed called yogi's guest house, we laughed too - who in their right mind would stay somewhere with a name like that?! After the first two nights where we were the only guests, word must have got around that a couple of English studs were in town and the place began to fill up. Couple of danish girls, Camilla & Louisa, norwegian girl, Eva, Canadian couple, Leonard & stephanie and an American guy called Zack (sadly no AC Slater though!). It was good to get to know a few people as these were the first real travellers we had met. There was a really cool rooftop terrace where everyone used to hangout at night to eat & drink.
There wasn't much to do here apart from visit the fort so again we had time to relax and just take in the local culture by strolling around town, it doesn't sound much but it really is enjoyable just walking the streets and taking in the various sounds & sights.
Then the detours began...onto Ajmer and Pushkar.
