Greg and Kerrie's travels
When we came home from our 2013 trip we thought it would be our last motorcycle adventure overseas. We always planned to travel more but though we might take the more comfortable option of hiring a car or campervan.
We decided that we would like to return to Europe as there is still so much to see, so we started investigating the different options available - lease a car, fly in fly out, campervan, train or any combination of them all. Even though we were keen to go again we just didn't seem to be as excited as we had been about our 4 previous trips. Over breakfast at Canungra one morning we speculated as to why we were rather reluctant to commit to the next trip. The reason we concluded was because IT WAS NOT ON OUR BIKE! An so the plans changed.
A call to Dave Milligan at Get Routed, deposit paid, and the decision was made to ship our bike to Athens and spend 6 months exploring Europe again. We even organised a house swap for several weeks in Scotland. The house swap idea had first been hatched at our niece, Sherrie's wedding in 2011 when we met Neil and Isobel - Sherrie's cousins. Neil and Isobel were keen to come to Australia for a few months in 2015 and we were not going to pass up the opportunity of free accommodation in Scotland - so the house swap idea was set in motion.
As usual, the next 12 months were spent planning the trip. The proposed itinerary changed many times over breakfasts at The Outpost Café at Canungra. We decided that we would include as many new destinations as possible as well as repeating some well loved activities from our previous trips - more will be revealed as the blog develops!
One of the most exciting aspects of this trip is that our daughter Stacey, her husband Brett and our 3 grandchildren, William, Thomas and Hayley will be joining us for a month to tour through the UK and visit Paris and Florence with us. WOW! Are we really going to do this? YES! It's all booked and paid for! The planning phase of any trip for us is all part of the excitement of the journey. This time, we had the joy of planning part of the trip with our family.
As the planning progressed, friends Craig, Marg and Chris decided they would also join us and travel part of the way with us. Craig and Marg are first time overseas motorcycle travellers so we spent many hours discussing the trip together and even showing them the tricks of the trade about packing.
And so the time came to pack the bike and take it to Sydney to be put in the container. Now, followers of our blogs will notice that the bike featured in the photos is not our much loved Pommie Ducati. After 105 000km of faultless companionship, the Triumph Sprint ST from our last 3 trips was replaced by our new Triumph Sprint GT. Our Pommie Ducati has gone to a new home with our friend Chris Pearson (travelling with us for some of our trip) so I'm sure it will feature in parts of our blog along side our new bike. The Sprint GT has more storage room (does that mean we can take an extra t-shirt?) and only 2500km on the clock when it left.
Packing the bike in to the container went smoothly as usual - what a great service Get Routed offers!
Now all we need to do is wait until April 3rd when we fly out of Brisbane and head to Athens for bike pick up on the 8th.

Team Elephant I didn't recognise the silver bike. At least you could put a No 27 on the side! Good luck as always, Team Elephant
Craig and Marg They are the worst looking boxes I have ever seen. Clearly the boxes packed into the Brisbane container were far more professional. Can't wait to get going ourselves.
parkdel Sooo jealous (again). Looking forward to your blogs and more tips from you as to places to go and sights to see for our next trip. Us fellow travellers have to look after each other!
