Greentrees On Tour
After a fantastic time in the south of France, particularly in Monaco, with Malcolm not feeling well, we drove the long distance to Geneva, Switzerland.
When we finally reached our destination point (our GPS has been a life and marriage saver, as it is awesome...anyone thinking of getting one for this type of trip should, as you can spend more time concentrating on the road and the scenery rather than a huge and confusing map) we checked into a hostel. This was the first time staying in a dorm room in a hostel, and probably the last, especially when you share with 4 others. In addition to that it was raining and Mal was coming down with a bad cough and a flu, so it was not the best of starts. However once we headed into town and checked out Lake Geneva with all of the snow covered mountains surrounding us, we quickly forgot about all of the things that were annoying us.
We did find the time to do a train tour around the old part of the city, and also attend a Church, however it was in French, and although we could not understand what was being spoken, the choir was absolutely fantastic to listen to.
After a couple of days we were quite happy to check-out of the hostel and head towards Montreaux. Again, the rain and Mals flu put a dampener on things so we continued on the road all the way to Interlaken (central Switzerland). When we arrived there was no accommodation available in our chosen hostel (ran by a Christian organisation) as we arrived 2 days early, so we had to make do at another hostel up the road. After 2 days of rain, this time of rest allowed Mal to recover a little before we checked into the Christian hostel, which was a fantastic hostel with great views, great people and a great location.
While in Interlaken we took the opportunity to go hang-gliding, which was absolutely amazing. At 800m in the air, flying like a bird is probably the best way to describe it. Interlaken is at a meeting point of 2 lakes, also surrounded by snow covered mountains, and we both agreed that apart from Moorea Island in Tahiti, this was probably the most beautiful part of our trip so far. So with this type of location it is not hard to imagine how great the view we had from the hang-gliding experience. We will probably do it again if we get another chance. Also, the hang-gliding guru that we used was an Aussie named Bernie, from Castle Hill - what a small world.
Also while we were in Interlaken, we took the cable car (actually a few of them) to see the sights from a mountain called Schilthorn, made famous by an old James Bond movie. The views were amazing, and words can not describe it, so just check out the photos.
With much sadness, we left Interlaken and headed towards Italy. If we could have stayed there longer we probably would have, but the road was calling us.
