Yo! Sharon is doing the blog for Fraser Island, we are putting pictures on from everyone in a couple of weeks, and I'm sure Nick, Faye and the gang will put more on from Cairns and the rest of their trip.
Just a bit from Airlie beach for now. It is a bit strange here, but we had a lot of laughs. We arrived at 6am last week sometime (days are a blur, sorry), and checked into a massive dorm, complete with a couple of other travellers. We went on a 3 day sailing trip on the Whitsundays the next day, and despite the 18 leary Irish travellers getting continually pissed and angry, we actually had a great laugh on the boat. We slept at a sweet little campsite up on the hills, and I think we are getting so much in the way of scenery right now that we are actually getting a bit blase about it. Oz may lack a lot of things, but the surroundings are pretty unbelievable. When you have seen sharks, whales, dolphins, koalas, kangaroos, dingoes, wallabies and kookaburras, alongside lagoons, islands and the biggest space of blue water ever, things just start to blur. We have been lucky to say the least.
There are 74 islands off the Eastern Coast, and we got to see about ten of them. We also managed another intro dive (apart from Faye, who was allowed to do a 40 minute mega dive with the instructor coz she is proper pro). That was pretty spectacular, and when I have more money, I'm gonna start diving wrecks in the UK too.
After a couple of nights away, we ended up back in Airlie Beach, at Magnums backpacker hostel. There are hundreds of travellers here, which has its ups and downs, but Nick's Birthday came along at just the right time for us to ignore the crowds and have some fun. We also hooked up with some girls we met on our Fraser Island trip, and went out with them too. Mike managed to have about 3 other women attached to him despite the fact that he generally hated them all and couldn't be less interested, and then unsuccesfully attempted to pull some others. Unlucky Mike, but there are plenty more dolphins in the sea! Nick and I were too stoned to really care what was going on, Faye and Adele were doing scary dances with strangers (that girl with the glass Adele, I'll NEVER forget), and Sharon felt rank and went to bed early. What a night.
After Nick's Birthday, with hangovers and fatigue around their necks, the 5 other Samurai left for Townsville and Cairns, and Sharon and I stayed here. We are off to Sydney again tomorrow night, and the Seven are now no more. Sob.
Anyway, Airlie Beach and the Whitsundays are deffo worth a visit, and would be double amazing if you had your own boat (Doctor Pete, if you still have one, fancy a trip to Oz in September!?).
That'll do for now. There are blogs all over the place at the moment, especially as we have sometimes put the wrong entries in the wrong places, and we are now all in different places. Just check all the OZ blogs They are under New South Wales, Queensland and Capital Territory (where we haven't actually been in any case), and if you really want to read about what we have been up to, you'll find it there.
Peace out. Tevez is a beast...
