I (Faye) arrived in Darwin Crocodile land! (the mary river here has the highest concentration of crocodiles in the world) from Cairns. After a sad time when Laura Nick and Mike left me to fly to NZ. I arrived to heat as soon as i stept off the plane it hit me, I thought this is what I expected from Oz! My hostal was a bit 'skanky' but the town had a great atmosphere loads of live music and people dinning/drinking al fresco.
I left for a tour of kakdu the next day, it was amazing the first day we cruised down a billabong (water hole) with our guide indiana jones! to see literally hundreds of crocodiles, and loads of wildlife, wild boars, three different species of hawks, Jabaru's (lovely coloured birds). Then the thirteen of us had a lovely lunch prepared by our guide Tarzan (he realy looked like him). Then we went to an ancient rock art site called Ubir To see the most fantastic aboriginal art which depicted stories of hunting and dreamtime messages. I learnt a lot from tarzan about this ancient/oldest surviving culture in the world. it is very interesting and the a lot can be learnt from the aboriginies. Then we watched another amazing sunset at the yellow water billabong. This is one of the most amazing spiritual places. At dinner Tarzan explained the next days itinery and that we would be home late the next night this is when i realised i was on the wrong tour i was ment to be doing three days. This was Tarzans fault as i pointed out he had never checked me in to the coach. So he arranged for me to do a day tour the next day of Litchfieild national park (good one). After the best camping experience ever (i had a bed in the tent) we visiteed jim jim falls it was the most amazing waterfall i have ever been too. We had to swim across a croc infested pool to jump it. Only freshies!! (they only bite, wont eat you!). I climbed the waterfall and was scared of jumping off but Tarzan lunging forward was enough to make me jump! We visited an aboriginal information centre on the way home which was very informative and interesting, i have subsequently bought two books writen by Aboriginal people. After a good nights sleep back at a nicer hostal i visited Litchfield with a different tour company we went to three amazing waterfalls and swam in all of them. I'm glad i went on this tour as i subsequently got a job with the company as hostess/guide on the tours amazing! So now the outback and these beautiful natural wonders are my office. If you want an idea of what my new office looks like crocodile dundee 2 was filmed here.
Darwin itself is full of wonders too the museum is great houses the biggest croc found in the harbour. I have gone for runs along the esplanade, which goes to the harbour very nice (Nick you will be proud). Swam in the croc infested beach and eat and purchased souvinirs at the night markets of Mindil beach which are truely chilled. I have danced to Emdee the best music i have heard for a long time one guy playing four digiridoo's and the best drummer in the world!! I have also not been taken out to dinner as promised by an Ozzy police man!! never mind. Overall Darwin is a great place
