With it being my last day in Melbourne I decided to do as much as I possibly could.
After a morning chocolate muffin I jumped on a tram taking me to St Kilda.. a relaxed seaside suburb just out of the city known for it's chilled beach, pier, cakes, and coffee shops.
The tram dropped me off outside Luna Park.. a small old fashioned amusement park with a wooden rollercoaster that is supposedly the first ever to be built in Australia. I walked by the park down to the beach and along the front. It was mid-morning with barely anyone around so it was a nice peaceful walk infront of the calm sea.. a stark contrast to the hustle and bussle of the city just 10 minutes away. St Kilda probably wakes up a little more when city workers finish for the weekend. I wandered around for a short while before jumping back on the tram toward Flinders Street Station.
I stepped off the tram before it got to Flinders so I could visit the Skydeck of the Eureka Building.. Melbourne's tallest building and the Southern Hemisphere's highest viewpoint. It takes just 38 seconds for the lift to reach the Skydeck on the 88th floor. The panoramic views of Melbourne city and beyond were amazing.. especially as it was a clear day with blue skies all around.
The Skydeck has an another feature at an additional cost.. The Edge - a small glass cube about 8 feet long with a glass floor which slowly protrudes horizontally out of the Skydeck so you can see directly below your feet. I would have liked to have a go but you aren't allowed any cameras in the cube so I decided to give it a miss.
Next up.. a tour of the famous MCG - The Melbourne Cricket Ground. As i was passing Nando's on the walk over to the stadium I thought I would pop in for a spot of lunch ;)
The MCG is home to Melbourne Cricket Club and hosts AFL games, aswell as other events. This is where the famous Boxing Day Test is hosted when the Ashes are played between Australia and England. The ground is huge with a 100,000 capacity.
The tour was superb taking us pitchside, up into the members area and lounge, the teams viewpoints whilst games are being played, the dressing rooms, training facility areas, media rooms and best of all - the biew from the top of the stadium. Really enjoyed the tour and took some great snaps which I will upload to Facebook asap.
After the tour I headed back into the heart of the city to have a quick browse around the shops but nothing took my fancy.
With having quite a big lunch I opted for some sushi rolls on the way back to the hostel from Sushi Sushi and they were superb! Will definitely be having more of them in the future.
After a quick shower I headed straight back out over the river to Village Cinemas on Southbank where I wound down for the evening watching 'The Adjustment Bureau'. Another good film which I enjoyed starring Matt Damon and Emily Blunt.
A long day is drawing to an end.. my feet are knackered and blistered from all the walking I've been doing so my bed is calling me. I'm just having one last chill out session in Federation Square before I make my way back to the hostel so I can publish my blog.
My time in Melbourne is almost up.. it's been an awesome 3 days and well worth the long journey south. The long journey back up to Stanthorpe starts early tomorrow morning at 8am.. bus to Melbourne Tullamarine Airport, flight to Brisbane Airport, train to Brisbane Transit Centre and bus to Stanthorpe - ETA being 7pm Queensland time.
Back to being a pepper picker!! Argghh!!
Over and out.
