We packed up and headed back to Rome this morning. The sun was shining so we took the opportunity to make a side trip to Portovenere. We walked along the shoreline and soaked up all the rays of sunshine we could to hold us over the winter back at home. We climbed some more stairs (nothing but stairs in this part of Italy) to reach the church, grotto, and castle.
It was then back in the car for the last part of our journey. We stayed in a hotel close to the airport since our flight was the next morning. Unfortunately the review of the hotel on line must have been 20 years old. Our room was run down and we even had to have someone come and fix the toilet. But there is a silver lining in that we walked around the area to kill time before supper and Jaylene finally found the boots she has been shopping for during the last two weeks. Also the restaurant across the street was excellent.
So with a full belly we end our vacation

Dad We are back and caught up a bit on the jet lag. Weather is good so we put up the Christmas lights and change kathy's car to snow tires. We succeeded in sticking with Jaylene's open format vacation. So the only plan was the accommodations and access to the car. After that we woke up each day and headed out. This took some getting use to for Kathy and I, but once we caught on it was quiet enjoyable. Our blog may seam that we appear lost at all times, but his was by design, we always had a gps running so we could always find our way home. Just as Jaylene kept telling us things will work out. You would not believe how many times we would show up somewhere and ask how long until a tour would start and the response would be "the only english one for this morning starts in ten minutes". That would be after wondering about for hours, amazing. I would like to thank the support we received from family to make Jaylene's adventure possible. To my parents who looked after Tamara when the four of us where in Rome and during Amanda unplanned stop over in Iceland. The peroges are great. To amanda and Tamara for picking us up at the airport and having supper ready for us plus a clean home to return to. I would also like to thank those who commented on our blog we enjoyed sharing this experience with you. Thanks from all of us. Arrivederci, boun giorno , tschuss, au revoir, Ciao and even ciao-ciao.
