Fantastic buffet breakfast at Le feu Sacre restaurant next door to our hotel (and included in our tariff). Cereal, eggs, bacon, bagels..... Roey enjoyed several courses! Warm though slightly overcast when we headed off to further explore Quebec - first stop the citadel. Unfortunately the daily changing of the guard finishes the first week of September but we did a fabulous guided tour of this national historical site which is an active military garrison for the Royal 22nd Regiment. It is also home to the residence of the Governor General who apparently was "in" at the time and we did see officers practicing their drills. The historical information provided as well as the museum's collections were fascinating, plus the brilliant views from various vantage points over old town, the harbour area and the nearby plains of Abraham were battles were fought.
We continued on down the hill to the Terrasse-Dufferin and caught the funiculaire down to the old town. Just as impressive as the upper town so enjoyed wandering, checking our various shops, murals and art galleries. Had a coffee before heading to the
Pier and caught a ferry (for cars and people) across the river and back to provide the magnificent view back to
the city. For $6 return each and only taking 45 minutes seemed the more appealing option than a full cruise especially as rain had now set in.
Rode the funiculaire back up and wandered back to our hotel, doing a little shopping enroute.
I met the boys in a nearby pub and we found another nice venue for a drink before heading back again and preparing for dinner.
Had dinner at a little French restaurant virtually next door to the Chateau Frontenac - and guess what we had ....crepes! Very good!
