Sunshine and no rain this morning so after breakfast in our room headed out for another wander around this lovely city. Was even better with the sun shining - the buildings are so impressive. Managed to find one of Ottawa's popular attractions, the Byward Markets. Great atmosphere with vendors selling everything from fresh produce to all sorts of arts and crafts - have never seen so many varieties of pumpkins and "ice cherries" !?!.... look like a small garlic and taste like a sweet cherry tomato! Had coffee at a bakery that president Obama had visited and bought bread and cheese for lunch as well as sensational berries - strawberries, blueberries and raspberries!
It was time to head off for the drive to Montreal. After reprogramming the GPS to take the non freeway route we followed the Ottawa River through picturesque countryside and quaint little towns. Just near the town of Hawkesbury we crossed a bridge over the river into the province of Quebec and continued on to Montreal. Found our hotel on rue Sherbrooke on the edge of the Latin Quarter - great little European style hotel with separate room for Roey when he arrives. Plenty of character in area that seems to be close to a university and fortunately close to a bus station to meet Roey in the morning. After a rest had a decent walk around, with map in hand and making best attempts at deciphering French signage. Very interesting and much fun. Found a pub for dinner and drinks before heading back.
