I know it sounds crazy but I am actually now on vacation from my vacation! My friend Josie wanted to see Peru and, like nearly every one of my friends, is still working. She only had a limited time for a holiday. Peru is huge - long and skinny with so many highlights it is quickly becoming the destination of choice for adventure travelers, It has Machu Picchu, beaches, deserts, jungle, rain forest and mountains. Lots of mountains as the Andes that start way up in Columbia, work their way all the way through Peru into Bolivia and on to Argentina and Chile. First it was going to be a vacation with Josie, Les and Barry and maybe Josie's son, Clinton. Then the planning and scheduling started and it turned into a difficult endeavor. So, in the end, Josie got nearly a month off and is on her way to Peru. Because I know so little of South America and how to get from here to there cheaply.....not like Asia - I now know Asia on the cheap......we decided to do a tour. Yes a tour....something so unfamiliar to me as an independent cheapskate traveler. It will meet our need to see a lot of territory in a short time and I was able to cobble together a personal tour. We are not on a 21 day bus trip or anything like that - we are on a 2 days here and three days here - different companies and people in each place.
The vacation part for me is I think I just have to sit back and leave the logistics to somebody else. No having to figure out how to find the bus, figure out if it is the right one, how to find the city centre...find a room....you know - all those time consuming things I do in a day.
So come along with us for a three week whirlwind tour through Peru and hopefully a week into Bolivia - I am sure it will be interesting. I have been in Lima for a few days, and loving it - meeting new friends everywhere I go. When Jos arrives we will be off living the life of tourists. Easy Peasy. - Vacation Time!
I can hear the groaning from here......hey - Nomad living does take some effort some days!!!!! And winter is just around the corner here in the southern hemisphere.....even with snow!!
