Having the great luck to already be across the pond in Leeds England at a policing conference, I found a great deal on a flight to Cairo, via Milan.......Never been to Egypt before......seemed like a good idea.
The reality was this was a very difficult trip - not so easy to be a single blonde woman in a fundamentalist Islamic country. I was able to go from Alexandria in the north all the way through Egypt, including 7 dys on the Nile is a pretty small boat, to Lake Aswan, near the border of Sudan.
So many wild stories on this trip ....... nonetheless, the sites and smells were great and I fell in love with camels.
Highlights of this trip was climbing Mt Sinai - partially on camel back, summiting in time for sunrise. Another amazing thing was snorkelling in the Blue Hole at DaHab near Sharm el Shiek.
This trip also held my worst 24 hours of travel day ever......Cairo market terror which included a mob attack on a car, a taxi driver who demanded sex for passage, to the flight to Milan, standing in a rainstorm on the runway in Milan, arriving in Manchester England soaked with my duffle bag filled with water, hauling it dripping thru the streets of Manchester at 3 am with the skin heads taunting me only to have a turnaround of 4 hours to retrieve my stuff and get back to the airport to fly to Inverness Scotland to meet Bob..........ahhhh.....it is so surreal to even remember it.......
