Friday 2 March 2012
Since carnival weekend, the Fridays have been turned round and today is, instead, a free day. Consequently, Anya, Eva, Gabriel, Bo and I left for Quito after breakfast. We made good time and managed to book into one shared room in the hostel, with Eva and I sharing the only double bed in the room.
Eva, Anya and I combined our laundry and handed it in to the nearby hostel (who had done it for me twice, even though I hadn't been a resident but had been one previously) as quickly as possible (so as to get it back the same day), and then made tracks for the internet, lunch (chicken nuggets and chips - we needed the change of diet, I did at least. I mean, chips, really!) and the supermarket.
After a break at the hostel, we then decided to hunt down Baskin and Robbins at the mall, and I wanted another "Crepes and Waffle" ice cream. So changing from my daypack to my shoulder bag, we all headed off to the Quicentro mall using the Ecóvia bus. I had to make do with a Baskin and Robbins waffle cone as the "Crepes and Waffle" (which was bigger and cheaper) had a massive queue and you needed a ticket, and I didn't know where you got those from, but it was still good.
Then it was back to the hostel to try and see if we could pick our laundry up and then get ready to meet up with Marcus and Axel. Both Anya and I had decided we would like to go back to the same Indian restaurant we'd been to in our first 2 weeks in Quito.
After a delicious chicken vindaloo, with (shared) rice, nan bread and a mango lassi, we all headed off to one of our salsa bar haunts, me until 1:00 am, Anya and Gabriel until much later.
