Our trip so far
Well we are actually in Hanoi now but that can wait... It's hard to put things into words, we see and do so much, time flies and sometimes it's a little hard going - HONEST!!
Since we last wrote we had only got to Chaing kong, northern Thailand on the border of our 2nd country LAOS!!
Before we tell you about Laos let us tell you of the night before the long boat trip. Our hotel was basic to say the least, Gecko's on the walls and solid beds. But the view of the Mekong river was amazing. We put our stuff into our rooms and head off to explore Chiang Kong, it was quite a nice little place so we thought we would have dinner and settle down. NO not us, after dinner we had a couple of drinks then the bar closed, we were about to head off when a guy from a big family on the next table asked if I ( Glenn ) had tried the local whiskey. I had to try it - it's all about new experiences you know :) - and it was good. Jodie liked it too so we joined the family with a couple of Irish girls and began getting drunk. Later Nami ( the whiskey maniac ) decided to buy lots more from the bar opposite and got the party going. Eventually we took over the bar opposite and ended up with us, the 2 Irish girls and all of Nami's family taking ove the bar. This bar was owned by the chief of police's sister and he joined us too. It was a great free night and I beat the locals, whilst Jodie and I learned about the local cultures and stuff.
Well next came the boat journey, a full day on the boat with Nami bringing out 6 bottles of whiskey and shouting "THIS STUFF IS BOTTOMLESS DUDE!!" whilst handing it out to every body even trying to get the driver to have some. The boat stopped on the river side and more beer was bought by every one, but the party fizzled out as they couldn't take the pace!!
We stopped at a strange s***hole for the night, they tried to rip us off, threaten us into eating in their resteraunt and scare us into not venturing out. But we did go out and met up in an Indian resteraunt ( The only nice builing in the crap village ). The next day was uneventful on the boat, just tiring and boring but with amazing views and the odd crazy speed boat whizzing past.
We arrived in Luang Prabang and set off to look for somewhere to stay, well a Scottish guy and I stayed in a bar while Jodie and his girlfriend went off. Our accomodation was nice andcheap.
We went off exploring, there wasn't much to do apart from cycling around and taking one of the many trips on offer. The mountain in the middle was a bit of a steep climb but well worth it especially and sunset. The market was really nice with a food market selling cheap meat, fish, rice and various vegetables. All in all very cheap food. The resteraunts are nice but not so cheap.
After a couple of days there we just stayed on the freezing cold bus for 28 hours with no money, as there are no ATM'S in Laos. Passing through Viang vien and Vientienne on the way... Didn't seem to be missing much.
Sorry it's so much writing we want to use this as a permenent reminder of our time travelling.
Thanks for reading, take care and all the best Glenn and Jodie!!
