The picture is of Tiger, the dog, in front of my cottage on St Martins island near Burna. Note the comfortable hammock not so easy for me to clamber out though! The temperature is just pleasant with a slight breeze.
Last night the staff were singing, playing bongos and flute so no one around when I got up. Walked to the beach and along past other small resorts and through garden of government resort no sign of coffee. Took rickshaw to town and stopped by a euro/Bangladesh restaurant and asked for black coffee no sugar. White coffee with sugar arrived. Sent back and new coffee arrived with coffee with milk and sugar and tea mixed in! That is a new one. Gave up and had just black tea and then the usual paratha and greasy omelette. I am now desperate for a black coffee at least they have it on the ferry.
This island is beginning to develop but they haven't devised a system to dispose the rubbish which is just thrown around. It is good that in Bangladesh they don't give out plastic bags but there is still plenty of other rubbish,- particularly the silvery foil crisp bags. An old man on the bus used one to keep his money which makes sense.
To get to my place you have to walk across sandy fields past goats, geese, sleeping dogs and cattle which are all very relaxed and content with their freedom.
The almost 3 hour ferry ride only cost £6 return. Again the terns entertained us in their antics to catch the bits of crisps thrown to them. I entertained the passengers by just being there.
To get back to Cox's Bazaar I got on one of the smaller busses expecting it would leave soon, but no it was hanging about for a couple of more passengers and then it was time to pray. So didn't leave until after dark and then had another nightmare journey with a catalogue of near misses and negotiating some rickety bridges.
I checked in at Seagull 5* de luxe hotel where they had offered me a room for only £18 per night. Lovely of course but I was still disturbed by my neighbours arriving back at 1am with a shrieking toddler and talking loudly outside my room. I need peace!
And I can't get connected to wifi.
