Delhi to Agra
Today we drove for four hours to Agra which was interesting in itself as there were so many farms and little villages on the way. It was really interesting to see how people lived.
We stopped to look around a huge temple, which was unbelievable! It was like a palace, surrounded by trees beautiful gardens with deer roaming everywhere. It is so strange to see the juxtaposition of the two worlds in India, that of poor people living on the streets compared to a majestic world seeped in history and the wealthy way of living.
What we did not expect when roaming around was the attention we got! Every other minute we had flocks of children coming up to us to shake our hands and take pictures of us. We had entire families asking for us to meet them. I think they must have thought we are famous movie stars or something. It was so nice, and so unexpected. The people are the most friendly I have come across, and are just happy to meet people from different worlds to their own!
In the afternoon we went to visit the Taj Mahal - what a sight! It is such a beautiful place with an incredible story surrounding it. Although we were disappointed at how busy it was, we stayed there for hours just walking around, taking in its beauty and sitting by the river which bends its way around the back of the gardens.
It has been such a nice day, because we enjoyed being out on our own with the local people and seeing things in our own time. All that seemed to spoil our time here was the entourage of people that would not leave us alone in the Taj Mahal. The picture taking and hand shaking at the beginning of the day grew tiresome to the extent that we were not free to just sit and enjoy our time there. In the end we ended us hiding for a while before watching the sun set over the Taj Mahal, which was incredible!
Tonight we had drinks on a roof terrace in Agra and tomorrow we are heading to Ranthambore for a few days where we hope to go on a safari in the national park and maybe even ride some camels and elephants!
So far, travelling is not what we expected, but we think it is just because India is a difficult place to travel around. Our driver is constantly telling us its it too dangerous and is more of our baby minder…but soon we will be on our own, working out the train systems and exploring places for real.
We are hoping our time will be more fun and that we will meet more travellers!
For now, we miss you all lots and love you very much!!
Bye-bye for now!
