Hi everyone,
We have had an amazing time on this trip so far. This might not be the biggest update as I am rushing to happy hour and even though I'm not drinking at the moment they do a fabulous 'virgin' pina colada!
Well we have visited the Caribbean coast which was brilliant. It was such a chilled out place and we were pretty secluded. There was a strong caribbean vibe to this small village and Bob Marley was regularly blasting out onto the street. The food was amazing (fish like I've never tasted before) and I loved just sitting on the beach and drinking out of a freshly cut coconut.
We are we are deep in the jungle in a place called Tortuguero National park which is very famous for Turtle conservation. The place we are staying is only accessed via boat which is pretty cool and every night we have to take a boat to go and eat. The hotel is wicked and it has a lovely pool so we have been chilling by it today. The weather is very hot and humid so this was a welcome relief! Last night we did a night hike into the jungle where we saw snakes (which kill you within an hour - comforting for us!) spiders bigger than my hand and dangerous frogs... with just a head torch. It was a bit scary but I am still alive with is great!
We're not allowed to go swimming in the sea here as there are sharks just off the coast. There are also crocks in the river, so I have just stuck to the pool today. We did spring a leak on the river the other day which made us all a bit nervous but all was okay in the end.
Tomorrow we are off early to Sarapique (I think that's how you spell it) which is literally in the middle of no-where. We will get there via boat, then tractor so we all have our sports bra's at the ready - ha ha ha. Apparently it is a pretty bumpy ride which will be fun. At Sarapique we are staying in a private reserve with no electricity and sleeping in tents with just the sound of the jungle at night. I think we will get some great trekking in there and I'm sure we will see some exciting animals.
Anyway as happy hour is calling ... to round up.... I am having an amazing time and I feel really lucky to be able to come here. I am getting on really well with my group and Fanny is brilliant, we are having lots of fun. I hope you are all okay and I will try and update you again when I can.
