We timed our departure from Freycinet perfectly as the minute we got to the car it started to rain. Unfortunately, it didn't really stop all day which put a bit of a dampener on our plans to camp at the Bay of Fires. In true British spirit (who ever let a bit of rain get in the way?) we made the most of it, calling into Bicheno for eggs and coffee and then Suvi and I shared a rocky road pancake at Mt Elephant Pancakes - delicious! Although the rain was pretty torrential we were pleased that we made the trip to the Bay of Fires (Conde Nast Traveler's 2005 World's Most (2nd) Beautiful Beach) - incredibly unspoilt powder white sand and turquoise water churned up by the weather. It was pretty wonderful to see such a gorgeous beach without any development nearby. From there we drove to Launceston, only stopping for cows in the road and a micro-brewery (take away as I was driving!) The night's accommodation was the rather unglamorous Hub (in a converted pub building).
