The first rumours that something was wrong with the roads started when we got back to Airlie and Linda found out that her night bus up to Cairns had been cancelled. My bus up to Townsville at 7am was on schedule, but it terminated in Townsville instead of going on up to Cairns as there was flooding on the road. As a result Townsville got VERY busy! Linda arrived at Foreign Exchange backpackers shortly after me and we caught up with Or and Yuval from Israel who Linda had done Fraser with and who I had met in 1770/Agnes Water. So pleased that they were all there and that the hostel was nice (converted colonial building) as we didn't leave Foreign Exchange for 2 days other than to walk to the supermarket! My dive trip to the Yongala was cancelled on Wednesday disappointingly as it was too rough for them to anchor the boat. Once it became clear that the roads were not going to reopen anytime soon we all booked on flights - Linda and I to Cairns on Thursday and Or and Yuval to Melbourne on Saturday.
