My final luxury coach ride back to Buenos Aires, it really is the way to travel with flat or nearly flat beds, good movies, food and wine!
Decided to stay in the Millhouse which is a bit of a BA institution and renowned as the party hostel of Argentina. All was calm when I arrived, dropped by bags and headed to the Retiro market for some last minute souvenir shopping. The weather as before was perfect blue skies and ideal for wandering around the city. Being a weekend the city centre was completely dead, such a contrast to a working day! I joined a trip from the hostel to the River Plate v Goody Cruz football my first evening back. Unfortunately River lost 2-1, but the atmosphere was still pretty special. The funniest thing was how tiny the crowd of Goody Cruz supporters was compared to the River supporters, but how excited and how much noise they made when Goody won! That night there was a party at the hostel and then a few of us headed off to a club in Palermo to dance through the early hours of the morning. Not a cheap night out by any means!!! Sunday was pretty chilled, although I did manage to wander through the San Telmo market with Katy, one of the girls that I had met at the hostel, and checked out some of the casual Sunday afternoon tango. Sunday evening it was my turn to give tango a whirl, with a beginners class along with a group of others from the hostel, followed by a staged tango show. It was really impressive and a great, fun night out.
There were a couple of areas that I had not visited on my first time in BA, including Palermo, so I made a beeline for there on Monday, checking out the beautiful, tree lined streets packed full of fab shops and cafes. On Monday evening I met Stella at La Bomba de Tiempo an improvised percussion show. Brilliantly different with guest artist appearances and such a buzzy atmosphere. Some of the dancing by the crowd was eccentric to say the least!!!
On my last day in South America I decided that I had better get another stamp in my passport so I caught the ferry over the River Plate to Colonia del Sacramento in Uruguay. Colonia is a UNESCO World Heritage town and was showcased perfectly by the clear blue skies and warm weather which was ideal for sitting in its plazas and enjoying the setting. For my last proper meal in Argentina I decided that I had better try another steak. Sam, a Scottish guy I had met at Millhouse was also on my flight home and had booked into La Cabrera, one of BA's best restaurants with a friend, so I joined them with another friend Silvia. The steak was admittedly pretty good... but still not convinced that I would want to eat it on a regular basis!!!
Now back home and settling back into normality, but think that it'll be a while before I get round to getting a job, there is so much other stuff to do!!!
