Flight landed safely and we were greeted by 45.7degrees heat! it was crazily hot! It was too hot to do anything other than chill at the hostel so i had tea and then watched a film
29th jan - got up at 8 this morning, such an awful nights sleep - no air con so felt like i got not sleep at all. the hsotel had free pancakes for brekkie which was rather sweet! I spoke to owner of hostel about getting an air con rom but they have none so he sent me to another hostel that happened to be much nicer and a little cooler - but the a/c was packing in as it was too hot! After moving, i checked out the central market but didnt buy anything. I then went to the Gelnelg beach in the afternoon as the hostel ran a free bus to the beach daily. It wasnt the nicest of beaches but it was lovely and calm so perfect for swimming and cooling yourself down in the extreme heat. Chilled at the hostel in the evening.
30th jan - slept amazingly last night which makes up for the lack of sleep the night before. I headed into town in the afternoon and visited the migration museum - it was really interesting as it gave a complete history of Australias migration history, of which i knew little about. i then headed to Tandanya Aboriginal art gallery. I love aboriginal art so it was an afternoon well spent. I love the fact that each painting has a story behind it. In the evening i watched the Nadal Verdasco semi final that lasted a whole 5.5hours, but it was such a fantastically gripping game. it didnt finish until 1.30am!
31st jan - So far at the hostel, everyone i met hd either already driven the Great Ocean Road from Melbourne or had already booked onto an organised trip. I wanted to drive the Great Ocean Road from Adelaide to Melbourne in a campervan and i had found an incredibly cheap deal so i booked a van and then went in search of a buddy to drive with, i put up signs in a few hostels. I hit the beach again this afternoon. And it was just my luck that Glenelg lifesaving club were having a race today, so there were loads of life guards including a few hotties on the beach preparing to race. it made for an entertaining afternoon on the beach! In the evening i met up with a german girl called Angelina and we decided to do the road trip together!
1 Feb - Incredibly hot again today - slept in until midday then spent the afternoon wandering around the city and getting stuff sorted for the roadtrip. In the evening we watched the mens tennis final between Nadal and Federer. It was such a close game - majority of us wanted Fed to win but he was missing so many chances. In the end the game was going on too long so i went to bed after the 4th set. On entering the room my two new roomies who i met earlier (John and Steve - farmers) started chatting. They were really really lovely and we ended up chatting for around 1.5hrous - this totally defeated the point in not watching the tennis but never mind - federer lost anyway!
