The road is officially a river! Its only been raining for about 30min but we are now stranded. We thought it was supposed to be the dry season here!? We are now in our 8th country, Vietnam. Tonight we go to the airport, not to leave but to welcome more of Amys holiday intruders. Only kidding..looking forward to it! Bit of man time with Amy's brother. We found a place next to where we are staying that sells a litre of local beer, Red Saigon (5.2%) for 10,000 Dong...thats 30p and a kebab for 15,000D. Sorted.
We had a particulary easy travel day, leaving Phnom Penh to here. We were up bright and early, 5.15am for some breakfast . Just after 6 we were picked up by a shuttle which took us to our Luxury Bus. We reached the Vietnam border about 10am. It was easy going as all we did was hand over our passports to the Driver who then goes and gets them processed, stamped etc for you. All we had to do was wait for our name to be called. I was last. We arrived in Ho Chi Minh City about 1pm. within 5 min of being there we were already in a room. Some happy local chap said he had a room for $10...we had a goosy ganders and ended up staying there for 2 nights.
So far we have done very little. We are hanging on for Nick & Lucy so everything we do with them is new. We are staying on a busy road, in District 1. There are lots and lots of guest houses. We moved today into a different one. Originally we were staying off the main road down a cramp alley way. We got to wake up every morning and walk out side and see old woman decapitating chickens and then grinding the body into something that resembles mince meat? It was ok though as there was a really friendly grandma there who was always happy to see us...unfortunately our room stank. We are now in a $10 room in a hotel with a/c and a balcony over looking the main backpackers road.
Just checked outside and te road is about 4 inches deep now. Its a b***** as w are staying the otherside of the road, Amy forgot the umbrella again.
We have plenty do over the next few days...one thing we will be doing is visiting the Cu Chi tunnels..the underground network of tunnels the Vietnamese made during the War.
Im sure we will have lots more to report after a few days with the new comers.
Until then.
Ta very much.
