The next day we woke up and actually made it downstairs in time for the hostels breakfast. We had a whole day in Singapore and hardly any money so decided the best way to see a lot and spend little would be to buy a travel card on the underground and do some sight seeing.
The first stop was the Singapore eye. We almost got lost from the underground station as the pavements were barred off and it looked like there were lots of road works going on. After seeing some VIP tents and advertisements, we realised that they were setting up for the Marina Bay Formula 1 street race. The race would be the next weekend and would have been amazing to watch!
After seeing the Singapore eye we strolled through a shopping mall and realised how Singaporeans have extremely good taste! They are all very arty and contemporary. The architecture was unbelievable and unlike London, it was nice to see buildings being constructed for ascetic and not moneymaking reasons.
We also saw the sky scrapers, the science/art museum which looked liked the Sydney Opera House, the infinity pool and strolled around the beautiful harbour. It was so quiet and chilled out for a city and extremely clean! After a few hours walking around we headed back to the hostel whilst the sun was at its strongest as it was too much to walk around in.
After an accidental nap we headed back out for dinner. We headed to China Town as apparently it gave a good representation of authentic Singapore culture and also had cheap food! We strolled around all the Chinese stalls and finally made a random choice, no valid reason as all the menus were in Chinese, and had an authentic Chinese street food meal. By the way nothing like the food you get at a Chinese takeaway and the same goes for Vietnamese food! The rest of China town was really interesting to look around and it surrounded some religious buildings (not sure if they were temples) which had amazing attention to detail engravings on.
We hopped on the underground back to Little India and strolled back to the hotel. Somehow I had managed to only spend £25 whilst in Singapore, although this would be the equivalent to five nights accommodation in Cambodia! We chilled at the hostel for a bit and packed our backs ready for the next flight to our last country Indonesia.
