Getting lost while exploring
Obviously, we didn't hang around at the International Inn Motel. Packed up and drove to South Beach. Got there really early, it was quiet and overcast. We walked along the beach on the compacted sand that feels similar to concrete. So far not overly impressed.
Had pancakes for breakfast which were good but not fantastic. Didn't order coffee as it was $5 a cup which is the most expensive coffee we've come across. Have I mentioned how **** the coffee is in America? It doesn't even taste like coffee and is usually served straight from a press button machine. Makes you realise how spoilt we are in Australia & New Zealand with good coffee. I've been mainly drinking tea. Walked through the town and ordered two cappuccinos that were half the price and was stoked that it tasted great for once!
The clouds started to clear and the sun started shining. People poured onto the streets and beaches. It's amazing how your perception of a place can change when the sun is shining and there's activity. We spent the rest of our time in South Beach people watching, strolling, window shopping & shopping. I brought a new pair of denim shorts that Sam picked out, he's not a bad shopping companion.
We had lunch at the 11th Street Diner to escape the humidity. Hands down the best burgers we've had! Decided that Lorde is definitely the most played musician on the radio as from New York to Washington to Miami you hear her songs blazing on the airwaves constantly.
Headed to the Miami Auto Museum Dezer Collection in North Miami. I can't escape cars!!! But I actually quite enjoyed it, they had hundreds of old American cars, motorbikes, scooters, bicycles, antiques & advertisements. The total value of everything in the collection is mind blowing. We spent a couple of hours viewing everything and took heaps of photos.
Hit the road and commenced the drive towards the Deep South, which is another 12-hour drive. Stop at a rest area at midnight to sleep till the morning. Decide that we will utilise these rest areas as much as we can to save $$.
