Day 3
We took a Soyaz bus 5hrs to Ica to visit the desert oasis Huacachina. We have had the most incredible 2 days here! I would recommend a visit to anyone planning on visiting Peru.
As soon as we got here we went on an exhilarating sand dune buggy roller coaster ride up and down the dunes and experienced sand boarding flying down on your belly! This was a scary but hilarious experience - hopefully a video to follow!
Out hostel Carola Del Sur is pretty basic but fits all your needs apart from its lack of wifi connection. For dinner we joined the hostels BBQ to meet other fellow travellers and learn from their experiences. We intended to join the salsa class but jet lag caught up with us and we were fast asleep!
Day 4
After waking up early after a good nights sleep we had a relaxing day basking in the glorious sunshine. Liz and I even gave rowing a go in the lagoon but think we could have done with some practice because we kept rowing round in circles!
Watching the sunset from the top of a sand dune was a highlight of Huacachina and defiantly worth the trek to the top.
For dinner we met up with Emily, (a university friend) and friends who just happens to be travelling a similar route to us, a day behind. We all tried out first Pisco Sour -a traditional Peruvian cocktail, which went down nicely, closely followed by a couple more!
I even tried out my Spanish when my cocktail was 99% rum.
Quiero mas jugos but after they didn't understand me, I went with 'more juice'
The night finished on a high apart from the thought of the 6am wake up call to catch a bus to Nasca in the morning.
Tip: book buses early, they sell out quickly especially the night busses from Nasca to Cusco
Cruz del sur busses are most popular
